Average Atomic Mass

Have you ever noticed that the number at the bottom of an element on the periodic table is almost always a decimal? This is because of the average atomic mass. Elements can be found in different isotopes in nature which is why it is a decimal.

To find the average atomic mass you multiply the mass of each isotope by its natural abundance, expressed as a decimal, then you add up the products.
