There are three different types of bonding, covalent, ionic and metallic.
An ionic bond is a bond between a metal and a nonmetal. For example, regular table salt NaCl. Na is the metal and Cl is the nonmetal.
A covalent bond is a bond between a nonmetal and a nonmetal, an example of this is is H20 (water)
A metallic bond is a bond between two metals.
Each of these bonds have properties that help to identify them.
Metallic bonds are know to:
- conduct heat
- conduct electricity
- have high melting points
- have high boiling points
- be strong
- be malleable
- be ductile
- appear metallic
- reflect light
